Arcenio Martin Campos Statement As simply as I can state, the main stimulus for inspiration is to fill the void that resounds during the very moment that exists prior to coming into an idea for a work of art. In the past I would say that it was tangible things that inspired me, but I’ve since learned that those things were just supporting actors. It is the desire to conquer this sense of helplessness that comes with the lack of a clear idea, that compels me to create and overcome. Then I am able to enter a meditative state where I can clear my mind and drown out all the unecessary visual stimuli and get into the real essence of painting or drawing. What we see with our eyes cannot be the prime factors in the creation of an image or an idea because they are only the surface. What makes the surface so important is the underlying structure, meaning all of what it takes to actually create a work of art. It is not enough to paint a portrait or a landscape because of its beauty. Being an artist is a twofold search for why I am compelled to depict an image, any image, as well as a lifelong quest to answer to myself why on earth I do it in the first place. All other consideratons in the process of creating art are only a means to that end.
